Ashdown Rambling Club

Ashdown Rambling Club, based in East Grinstead, West Sussex, was founded in 1961 by Five Enthusiastic Walkers. In 1962 we became affiliated to the Ramblers’ Association and presently we have a membership of over 200. We have a Footpath Working Group made up of club members who carry out all aspects of footpath maintenance and offers of help in doing this essential work are always welcome. Almost all our walks are circular with either a pub lunch or a packed lunch on the all-day walks.


Bag Tag

A baggage transfer service for walkers and cyclists on the Isle of Wight. If you are on a walking or cycling holiday, then BagTag will move your bags for you so you can enjoy your days without bearing the burden of heavy bags. Bags are moved anywhere on the Island for £6 per bag per day. Also collection from Fery Terminals is available.


Beachyhead

Beachyhead at Birling Farm, East dean, East Sussex is an ideal location to start your walking holiday. The farm boasts over 40 different breeds of sheep at the Seven Sisters Sheep centre and a 'Hayrack Tea Room' where you can have a real Sussex cream tea. As well as staying at Beachyhead Cottages, day visitors can explore walks devised by the farm, and soon will be able to visit the coffee shop and tea room.

Country Walks

Defra Country Walks

The DEFRA-run website - www.countrywalks.defra.gov.uk has now been redesigned to make it more interactive and user friendly. The guide lists those walks and rides open to the public under the Countryside Stewardship and Environmentally Sensitive Areas Schemes in every county in England. It includes information about the wildlife, plants and scenery of each site. There are lots of good ideas about other nearby access sites to visit. The website contains new county maps showing the location of nearly 1800 access sites. Clear maps are given for individual routes and 320 new routes have been added to the website since June.


Faversham

The Faversham area, stretching from the beauty of the Kent Downs to the flatlands of the north Kent marshes, is a great place in which to take a walk, ranging from the traditional Sunday afternoon stroll through to guided tours of the town and rambles through the countryside. Interesting walks include the Saxon Shore Way, along the banks of the Swale, Oare and Faversham Creeks and around the Oare Marshes Nature Reserve, and in Blean Woods. The woods are very old and almost half of it is so special for wildlife that it has been designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest."

WELCOME to some of the best country walking in England and the people who can help you enjoy it to the full. SUSSEX is a rural county just 60 miles southwest of London. Its coastal resorts of Brighton, Worthing & Bognor Regis are well known and very popular. But just a few miles inland the beautiful South Downs lead you up and over into an altogether different and secret world… Footprints of sussex was formed in 1985 by a small group of country walkers who wanted to share their love and knowledge of the Sussex countryside with other people. The group began simply by leading Sunday morning walks along their favourite trails. Weekend walks followed, allowing longer trails to be explored and it wasn't long before we took our first group along the South Downs Way National Trail. Today we are the leading walking activity company in Sussex.

Hants2030s

Hants2030s is a walking group for people in their 20s and 30s based in Hampshire and affiliated to the Ramblers Association. The club has a membership of over 100 who regularly enjoy 3-15 mile walks in Hampshire and surrounding counties. The walks usually include a visit to a pub en-route or at the end. In addition we run 2 or 3 weekend trips to national parks and other walking areas further afield and have a packed programme of social events throughout the year

National Trails

National Trails are the official routes, selected by the Governments Countryside Agency and the Countryside Council for Wales , to offer some of the best walking in Britain. National Trails are long distance routes for walking, cycling and horse riding through the finest landscapes in England and Wales.


North Oxfordshire Circular Walks

Cherwell District Council publishes a pack of 11 full colour circular walk booklets to aid exploration of hidden North Oxfordshire. The booklets come in a sturdy, splash-proof pack and feature: Tried and tested waymarked routes Easy to read maps and directions Variety of walk options including short cuts and village trails (distances range between 1 and 14 miles) Guide to pubs and facilities en-route Details of local history and points of interest The pack can be purchased from Banbury Tourist Information Centre 01295 259855 and Bicester Visitor Centre 01869 369055 for £5.50 (+ £1 p&p if ordering by post). The Wey and Arun Canal Trust

The Wey & Arun Canal runs through Surrey and West Sussex in Southern England. Much of the canal is no longer navigable - the Wey & Arun Canal Trust aims to restore the Wey and Arun Canal back to navigation. When it is restored, there will be an inland waterway link from London, via the rivers Wey and Arun, to as far as Littlehampton on the Sussex coast

Walk Awhile
